Crypto Design: How to Combine Blockchain and Visual?

The world of cryptocurrencies and related projects has entered our lives very quickly. Many people have crypto wallets or exchange accounts where they can trade crypto. As usual, design plays a significant role because it guides users and makes complex things simple and intuitive. So, let’s look at the design’s impact on the crypto industry.

Due to the virtual nature of cryptocurrency, entrepreneurs should focus on design to present their services profitably. For designers, on the other hand, the question is how to develop cryptocurrency companies properly. Enthusiasts will tell you that cryptocurrency is the future, but one thing we know for sure is that it is very futuristic. Thus, such themes seem to be a good fit: space travel, technology, and schemes emphasizing cryptocurrency’s digital nature. Unsurprisingly, we see a lot of sharp shapes with lines and neon that look like they glow in the dark.

Cryptocurrency brands often use grids, lines, and angular shapes to represent networks, connections, or circuits ideal for an industry that is very difficult to visualize. Grids also help to show the brand more stable and reliable, which is a big plus for experimental currencies. Somewhat contradictory regarding lines and grids, some cryptocurrencies use circles, hinting at coins. They can be thin (for example, traditional circular logos) or exactly repeat the coin’s image. This trend goes well with shiny metallic textures.

One of the innovative aspects of cryptocurrency is its potential as a decentralized currency. This concept refers to globalization. Therefore, the representation of the interconnected world doesn’t cause any difficulties. The simplicity of these projects helps cryptocurrency companies to draw attention to the essence of what they are doing — and at the same time, look great and relevant.

Like banknotes and coins, cryptocurrency logos are a special form of design product characterized by forced simplicity. Cryptocurrency usage suggests that users identify with a particular community and embrace the ideals promoted by the cryptocurrency. This separation from material reality is evident as digital money inherently lacks the need for formal references to physicality.

Cryptocurrency logos have already carved out a special place in the visual design of intangible forms of money, and it’s crucial to establish the criteria that will define a successful logo design. On the one hand, in this case, the same requirements that apply to any other logo will be relevant: simplicity, clarity, readability, shape, compliance with the theme, etc. A key aspect of branding mentioned above is its association with entrepreneurial expectations (that is, the visual consolidation of its association with profit, speed, innovation, etc.), but also the way in which the logo of a particular cryptocurrency represents the values of the community that uses it.

Thus, the design of cryptocurrency logos is currently one of the developing areas related to the visualization of monetary transactions. The conceptualization of this area still remains asymmetric because, despite promoting ideals of freedom from state-controlled money, logo designs widely incorporate references to material reality through images of coins and currency signs.
